Welcome to the USS Hornet!

TASK FORCE 11 SIM OF THE MONTH - January 2021
TASK FORCE 56 SIM OF THE MONTH - August 2021

"Be brave. Be bold. This is Starfleet, get it done." - Captain Christopher Pike

2395 - The Dominion War has been over for nearly 20 years and yet we live in an era of uncertainty and the memories of loss have become fear and paranoia creeping down. But there are still those who look to the future and the promise of a new day, who refuse to let themselves be pulled down into darkness by fear and instead boldly step forward into the unknown. The crew of USS Hornet are among those who seek out answers to questions and new questions to be asked, always looking forward and never backward.

For us, there is no enemy greater than the challenge of doing what must be done without undoing the dream of the Federation or turning our backs on the mandate of Starfleet. We will always be out there, pursuing the unknown and if you are up to the challenge, then we want you on our crew. Join us today and together, we will uphold the traditions of Starfleet. In the words of Captain Christopher Pike, “Be bold. Be brave. This is Starfleet. Get it done.”

-ABOUT THE USS HORNET-
Set aboard a Monarch-class, a Pegasus Fleet original design, the USS Hornet is intended to explore the numerous themes within Star Trek in a new era that has been unfolding in works such as Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks, while also advancing the unique plot and settings within Pegasus Fleet.

We seek to explore not only the universe at large, but also ourselves, as well as to face an era of uncertainty rocked by dramatic events. We face challenges within and without while also developing our characters in these situations.

--CURRENT MISSION--
A WORLD WITH A BLUER SUN
The crew of the USS Hornet is drawn into a mystery almost 250 years in the making. What starts out as a simple curiosity delves deep into tension and intrigue, a glimpse into the origins of Starfleet today, and a cautionary tale of paranoia, broken trust, and good intentions paving a pathway to hell...

» November/December Update

Posted on Tue Nov 23, 2021 @ 4:41pm by Captain Larisna Koralova in General News

Greetings Everyone,

So, we're fast coming up on the end of our first milestone - completing Mission 1!

I will be announcing awards soon, but any nominations can be made to me either via Discord, site DM or at cipherhornet18@gmail.com - please don't be shy to nominate your peers.

I have adjusted some of the positions due to certain requirements, and some positions have been cleared for inactivity. If you have anyone who might be willing to join our ranks, please let us know and have them drop by.

I have also opened Mission 2 - I'll get details up in the next few days. My end goal is that Mission 1 closes at the end of November, so get your posts in now. Any character development posts that are WIP should maybe be moved to Interludes if they're not going to be done by then. Remember - Interludes is our place for character development posts and remains open at all times for you and others to interact. Particularly if it doesn't fit in the mission.

I know with the holiday season, we're going to see a drop in activity. If you're not sure if you'll be particularly active for the next month or so, just drop me a line. Remember - communication helps big time here. I can't read minds and I can't know what's going on unless you tell me.

Thank you all for your hard work,

-Captain Larisna Koralova

USS Hornet Posting Requirements -

Greetings all,

We’ve gotten off to a good start, but I am starting to notice a few trends. While I still want us to have a more relaxed pace, I do feel it’s important to establish there’s a difference between “relaxed” and “inactive”. Many of you have done a great job in posting, and we did make significant strides in our opening debut by meeting the requirements of 2 posts per player. I fully recognize that real life puts strains on our time, not to mention that many of us are involved in sims across Pegasus Fleet and beyond. But 2 posts a month is not a tall ask - that is asking you to post twice in 30 days. I’ve seen places that will run you over if you weren’t posting every 2 hours. Even just two contributions in our larger JPs a month covers that requirement.

But I’ve also been noticing that some of you haven’t really been posting with any degree of consistency - or at all. Tags are left unaddressed, department heads are being posted past by their assistants, and in some cases, I have no proof of life. That’s not fair for the others who are active and being left hanging. To that end, I am placing a few requirements and fair warnings so that no one is in the dark.

1 - All crew are required to maintain the Pegasus Fleet standard of 2 posts per month. If you are unable to post, please communicate with me - email, via PM on the site or Discord, or just leave an LOA notice in the new LOA section on the Hornet’s server. If this isn’t met and no communication is made, I will be forced to assume you are AWOL and declare your character inactive and put the position up for grabs. I know RL blindsides us all, but it is not unreasonable to ask for a quick message if you can’t post.

2 - The CO retains the right to rotate personnel on the roster based on posting activity. For example, if an Assistant Department Head is posting more consistently than the Department Head, then the roles may be reversed to put the one posting more consistently as the Department Head.

3 - The commitment on this sim is for quality content. You are welcome to make character development posts, we do have the Interludes mission for anything that may not fit into the context of the mission currently ongoing. But it also does mean that players are expected to ensure what they are posting is consistent with what others have and what is going on in the context of the situation. Not reading what someone else posts not only is making it hard on others to respond, it’s just plain rude.

It is not fair to others if someone just joins the crew and proceeds to just occupy a seat but not contribute. And I simply do not have the time or inclination to prod everyone all the time - I do that enough in my RL job. We’re all adults and if something’s going on, my DM is always open. But I’m drawing a line - if you don’t tell me why you can’t post that month and just do nothing, I have to assume you’re no longer interested. If at the end of the month when I submit my CO Report, you have not met the requirements - as the CO, I reserve the right to move your character to a different role within the same department or even move your character to the Inactive side. If I do that, I will also update your permissions in Discord so you will need to get in touch with me to have your character reactivated and your permissions restored.

As CO of the Hornet, it is my commitment to you to provide a quality writing environment, but we all have to work together to shape that. We can do great things but only if we’re all working together.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me. My door is always open.

» Happy Star Trek Day

Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Hornet. Our continuing mission - to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before!

Just a Happy Star Trek Day to everyone - if you haven't yet, check out all the new stuff coming our way. It's a time to be a Trekkie, stuff's coming out left and right like it's the late 90s!

Every story we write, every interaction we work on, every plot we build, we add our own little bit to Gene Roddenberry's vision that started as a pitch of "A Wagon Train to the Stars". Our visions may differ, our ideas may change, but we are all inspired by the stories we watched, the characters we came to love and admire, and the lessons we took away about the hope of tomorrow being a better day for all of us.

So from me to you all, Happy Star Trek Day.

» Knock Knock - Hornet Calling!

Posted on Tue Jul 13, 2021 @ 10:45pm by Captain Larisna Koralova in Sim Announcement

Hello all you wonderful people out there!

So, surprise announcement, but while I am still working out the details with our awesome Fleet Operations, the USS Hornet is returning. But we're gonna have a few tweaks.

Firstly - We're moving to the Monarch-class. This PF exclusive ship class will be retconned in as our class, and it's only fitting that the Hornet be the one to set off in style with this fantastic new class.

Secondly - We're doing a bit of a reboot because the goal is to bring more in from the PF canon that has been a bit of a quiet spot for the Fleet on the whole.

So, this is where I am writing you. I don't have the Discord set up yet, so you'll need to PM me or email me.

You all have first dibs on your current positions - but you need to claim them or else I'm going to assume you're out for good and can't rejoin and they go back up for grabs. I'd like notification no later than 7/24/21 if you're rejoining. If you want to change your character but keep the position, I will allow it.

Otherwise, have a fantastic day

-Cipher
