Awarded to a crew member who has gone above and beyond to further the sim and community. (During her service, USS Hornet (CV-12) earned her place in history for the space program by being the ship that recovered the Apollo 11 and 12 crews upon their return to Earth. To this day, the Apollo Program is still heralded as a monumental achievement in space travel.)

Awarded to crew who participated in a post selected by the command crew that is submitted for Post of the Month. (“Eagle” was the callsign of the Apollo 11 lunar lander module. Commonly heard referred to as “The Eagle has landed” when touchdown was safely achieved on Luna on July 20, 1969)

Task Force Post of the Month “Clipper Cup” Task Force Post of the Month “Clipper Cup”
Awarded to crew who participated in a post selected at the Task Force level or above to be post of the month. (“Yankee Clipper” was the callsign for the command module for Apollo 12, and is on display now at the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton, Virginia. It also served as inspiration for the image of a clipper sailing ship appearing on Apollo 12’s mission patch.)

Memorable Post Award “Pete Conrad Medal” Memorable Post Award “Pete Conrad Medal”
Awarded to a crew member who did something particularly colorful and memorable. (Charles “Pete” Conrad Jr was Mission Commander for Apollo 12 and the 3rd human to walk on the moon. His personal quote was “When you can’t be good, be colorful”, honored by NASA as the tree dedicated to him at Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas is always lit in red at Christmas, as opposed to white for the other trees honoring all other astronauts who have passed away)

Personal Development Award “J.J. Clark Achievement Award” Personal Development Award “J.J. Clark Achievement Award”
Awarded to crew members who have shown considerable personal growth and development since they joined the USS Hornet. (Admiral Joseph J. Clark was the first Native American to graduate from the Naval Academy and made the USS Hornet (CV-12) his flagship during the Pacific Campaign from 1944 until she was sent back for repairs on June 13 1945, impressing his peers with his fighting spirit and seamanship.)

Three Month Service Citation “Magic Carpet” Three Month Service Citation “Magic Carpet”
Awarded to crew members who have remained with the USS Hornet for a total of three months from the time of their bio being accepted and have been a consistently active crew member. It may also be awarded at the time of three months of consistent activity otherwise (Operation Magic Carpet was the effort to return American forces from overseas after the end of World War Two. The USS Hornet (CV-12) was involved in returning American personnel from the Marianas and Hawaiian islands to San Francisco)

Awarded to crew members who demonstrate six months of consistent activity, either from the time of their bio being accepted or otherwise six months of consistent activity (While being refitted to allow for operation of jet aircraft, the bow of the USS Hornet (CV-12) was cut away to allow for repairs to her sister ship, USS Wasp (CV-18) in 1952)

Awarded to crew members who demonstrate one year of consistent activity. (On March 6 1965, a Sea King helicopter took off from the USS Hornet (CV-12) in San Diego, California, and flew nonstop without refueling to another carrier waiting at Jacksonville, Florida - covering a distance of 2106 mi (3388 km), 750 mi (1207 km) longer than the previous record)

Awarded to crew members who continue to provide critical service to the sim. (A Sea King helicopter with “66” marked on the side took off from the Hornet and several other carriers to recover returning astronauts. It was considered to be one of the most iconic and yet least remembered part of the American space program.)

Awarded to those who have contributed in a manner that may not fall under one of the other awards but requires proper recognition nonetheless. (The previous Starfleet vessel to bear the name Hornet was a Renaissance-class vessel with a mostly quiet career, though she was among the vessels called upon to help enforce Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s planned blockade along the Klingon-Romulan Border during the Klingon Civil War in 2367. This effort prevented House Duras from obtaining Romulan support, leading to Chancellor Gowron’s victory and solidification of his rule.)
