Specifications - USS Hornet (NCC-94650)

Summary

The USS Hornet is a Monarch-class which was commissioned recently, only having finished her shakedown cruise under a test crew six months ago. The numerous delays and complications saw construction delayed and even moved to other shipyards. This nearly saw the Hornet scrapped before it was completed but a need for exploration vessels saw priority increased and the ship was completed by the end of 2392 as a Monarch-class instead of a Sovereign-class.

The last ship to bear the name was a Renaissance-class that served through the mid 24th Century until being retired in 2376, including serving under Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s command to patrol the Klingon-Romulan Border during the Klingon Civil War. The name has been used a number of times since the late 18th Century on Earth by both the American and British navies, with the last one being an American aircraft carrier that was the recovery ship that picked up the Apollo 11 astronauts after their mission to put the first humans on Luna was completed.
