Working on a uplink

Posted on Tue Aug 25, 2020 @ 12:30am by

Mission: Mission 1 - Angstrom Operation
Location: Medical Lab
Timeline: Day 03 1600 hrs

Lieutenant Malloy was already in the lab working on an uplink to the bio med sensors on the environmental suits with two technicians from ops even before the good doctor got there.

It was a fairly simple and sturdy design that could pierce the interference of the stars radiation, the the signal could eventually degrade at a distance of 50,000 Kilometers. the up link would actually resonate off the the solar shield to boost the signal. That's pretty much what ops did was cobble together parts to make things work. They had actually tried several different uplinks but the signal degrade was too great respective of the stars radiation. Two of the uplinks actually burned out. after several trial and error adjustments they finally got one to work this was the culmination of there efforts so far. the uplink was made of a crystalline composite of silicon, beryllium, carbon 70, and gold, and has a protective casing made of micromilled duranium coasted with gold and silver alloys. For aesthetic purposes, it was fashioned in the shape of the of a small cube that could easily be fitted into the the bio med sensors of the environmental suit. Underneath the duranium casing there is a set of complex components powered by a sarium krellide crystal that supplies enough power for two weeks' use. When the crystal is almost exhausted it produces an audible oscillation, and power can be restored by induction recharging.

The main component in the uplink is the subspace transceiver assembly (STA), which incorporates an analog-to-digital data encoder and a low power subspace field emitter. The uplinks STA didn't make use of the wide range of data input channels that are so important in PADDs and tricorders. Because of the STA's small size and low power levels, it can only generate a relatively weak subspace field. Transmissions between the ship and the wearer of the suit have a range of approximately 50 feet if he user took off the suit, also this range could be affected by local factors such as EM levels.

They were using a nurse to test there device when the good doctor arrived.

"Well" Amu said. "This looks... savvy. What is it?" She asked.

"It's the up link you requested in the mission briefing, with this you can monitor life readings of the wearer of the environment suit. Even if the suit is removed it will continue reading the bio signs of the individual up to 50 meters away. With this you will be able to keep constant contact via medical means, monitor vital signs etc. Is there anything else you want it to do?" Malloy asked.

Amu shook her head. "I can have the sickbay computer analyse anything they may come into contact with" she explained with a smile.

"We are building it to your specifications, mostly because we don't know what we are dealing with. However it will do that and anything else you want it to do. Just let me know."Amanda said.

"If you are happy with it I will contact the captain and let her know we are ready".

=/\= Malloy to Captain Koralova, We have an uplink solution and are outfitting each environmental suit now. I think we will be ready to go in about an hour.=/\=

The Doc seemed to be happy with what Amanda and her team had done. so she decided to put it into production she had the other suits ready to go for the away mission.
