Mission:
Mission 1 - Angstrom Operation
Location: USS Hornet
The Hornet was now well away from the Dar'Akoa system, now with the survivors from the Angstrom Research Facility aboard. The medical staff was able to remove the parasites and start work on their care. Meanwhile, the Away Team was gathered in the Briefing Lounge with Commander Koralova.
"I want to open with that you all have done well. Starfleet was fully expecting to lose the facility, but the important thing is we saved the people and the research." Larisna said. She looked around the table, "The loss of Commander Reazat is regrettable to say the least, but it is the unfortunate reality of life in Starfleet. Memorial services will be announced once they have been prepared."
"As such, the matter of an executive officer and second officer will need to be resolved." She said, "I will do that in private after this meeting."
"Now. A couple of things and then I'll leave you all to your duties." Larisna said, "Firstly, again, you have all done a great job here. You were under a lot of pressure and facing a threat that until today, Starfleet only had a record of from back in Kirk's time. More importantly, you saved lives and averted a serious crisis. I have asked Starfleet Command to provide a debrief about this Stellar Inversion Drive that we were dealing with, but so far, I can't say as to when we'll get that information. I share your concerns that if it's just for mining, destabilizing one of the most stable of solar bodies should be outside of its capabilities."
"Next, there will be some further changes in the roster but I will discuss those with the officers it involves as well. But that's all I have." Larisna looked around the table.
"I'd like to open the floor to you all to voice anything you'd like to about the mission. This is an open conversation, just keep it civil." She said, with an open hands gesture, "So, anyone likes to go first?"
"Yeah, I have a question. Do we know what those blister things were? And where they came from?" Amanda asked.
Steven raised a hand to speak.
"I took the liberty of going through those historical files. The description and visual data is almost the same. These things are a one-celled parasite that uses pain to control its victims. However unlike the ones encountered by Kirk. These are all not part of one creature but individual." Steven reported
"Yes but how did they get there, was it a trap set by the Romulans?" Amanda asked.
Jedre listened to what's going and what is... She tried to think of what kind of question to ask not to sound stupid and coming back to haunt her for a stupid question...She continued to write notes for now..
"I was reviewing those files too. There have been other outbreaks since when the Enterprise encountered them, no real correlation among the lot of them." Larisna said, "The Romulans might be involved, it could be something else. I will still include this on the report to Starfleet Command, could be worth investigating. But at this point, the Romulans think we're just as guilty. Solar experiments like this...I doubt Commander Tokev is going to be too glowing in his report about us." She sighed.
"I have no questions at this time." Kranston rumbled from his seat at the far end of the table.
"Did we manage to destroy the actual drive itself?" Amanda asked.
Steven thought for a moment before speaking.
“ I think it’s highly unlikely the Romulans. Have anything to do with these flying blister pain parasites. Otherwise they would not be landing on the planet. “He explained.
Larisna looked to Amanda, "We did. The data you recovered will allow it to be rebuilt but the Romulans sort of forced our hand."
She glanced to Steven next, nodding thoughtfully, "A fair point, Lieutenant. Easier ways to clear the place and not risk damaging their "evidence". I will include that observation too." Larisna said.
"Anyone else?" Larisna looked around the table. She nodded once more.
"Very well. I'll leave you all to file your reports. I may be calling a couple of you to meet with me, just be ready for that. Otherwise, I'll be on the Bridge. Dismissed." Larisna said.
