"A New Home Finally"

Posted on Sat Jul 18, 2020 @ 4:32am by Captain Larisna Koralova

Mission: Mission 0 - While You Wait
Location: Captain's Ready Room

ON:

E'Lor stowed her gear in her new quarters. Fortunately, her quarters permitted her to hang her bat'leth on her wall along with her swords. She was proud of her weaponry and had several trophies from different tournaments. Putting them on a table, she arranged them in order of first place and so on. Happily humming a Betazed tune, she showered and changed into a clean uniform and headed for a look see around the ship, including engineering.

Engineering was the same as the Mekong but with one suttle difference....it was in good working condition. Smiling, she walked through and watched her people at their jobs and noted how they did their jobs. With a big smile, she went to her office and reviewed the engineering department's crew profiles. She studied all of them, taking about an hour, and got up and headed to the captain's ready room. Standing still as she arrived, she double checked her uniform, hair, and hit the Captain's door chime.

"Enter." Larisna said. She had several holographic displays hovering above her desk, one of the ship and the work order the starbase work crews had to do, and a list of the personnel arrival timetables.

"Ah, Lieutenant. Welcome aboard." Larisna said. "Commander Larisna Koralova. You caught me just before I was going to have to remind the yard manager that his crews will finish those post-shakedown refits on the lateral sensor array before they leave with the caretaker crew." She cracked a slight grin as she waved the displays away.

"Not something you'll have to worry about. So. Have you settled in alright?" Larisna asked.

"Oh yes finished putting my Klingon weaponry on the walls. The quarters are quite sufficient. I stopped by engineering on my way here. I was wondering why she was so familiar. She is just like my old ship, The Mekong. Broke my heart to see her in such bad shape. But I have to be honest with you, I have never liked Starbase engineers. They have a bad habit of leaving things half assed and half finished," ELor said chuckling.

"I seem to recall that being a constant complaint when the Galaxy put in for refits." Larsina replied, "Well, once they're gone, you're free to check their work. But I don't intend for them to leave you and your crews holding the bag. They said they were going to finish it, and finish it they shall."

"The upswing here is that this is quite literally a brand new ship, so I imagine you'll have a rare opportunity as an Engineer. Learn the ship for the first time, should be interesting." Larisna said with a smile.

"Of course she is, she still has that newness smell about her. I will definitely, but the Century class is not new to me, just she is a newer grade which will take time to look at the improvements they have made on her," E'Lor said chuckling. "Check their work, I will definately do that beginning as soon as we are done here," she added.

"It's not a common class, either. Partly why they let a Commander take over as Captain, it was pulled from production due to complications. The Hornet herself was almost never built." Larisna explained, "I see the potential, though. And I'm glad you're familiar with the class, that will likely come in handy as I'm sure the ship is to develop it's own unique quirks. I heard they ran the Mekong pretty hard to put the class through the wringer. If that's true, well, doubly so glad that you're here since you'll know the limits better than even San Francisco Fleet Yards."

"Agreed. The Mekong went through the meat grinder and she was a handful but I managed to keep her together. God how I loved her" E'Lor said sadly. "It broke my heart to see her brought back to the station. My beautiful lady torn and broken......" she said as a tear fell which she quickly wiped away. It was not good edicate to allow her commanding Officer see her cry. "Sorry sir...."

Larisna's smile was one of understanding. She pointed to the rack of model ships on one of the walls.

"First ship on the left. About all that remains of the USS Savannah. My first ship, the Breen shot her from under us during the Second Battle of Chin'toka, she was among those lost to their energy dampening weapons. Served on her since the start of the Dominion War. Lost friends, but I'll always remember that ship. There wasn't much to salvage, just blown to bits by the Dominion." Larisna said, "We were supposed to demoralize Starfleet with our survival. Klingon commander of the battlecruiser that saved us told us to do what Starfleet does best - inspire hope and innovation from what should be a crushing defeat."

"I don't plan on having the Hornet shot out from under us if I can help it. Take the lessons from the Mekong and use them to inspire hope and innovation. Because these days, we're in dire need of those attributes. Too many are lingering in the past or in a future that hasn't come to pass and holds no promise but of destruction. We'll do our part to change that."

"Agreed sir. I know who said that too. He was my inspiration during the war. This is why I do what I still do, try to be the best of the best in my field of expertise, engineering!" E'Lor stated getting up. Well sir now I must be getting my inspections done before we launch. Want her to launch in grand style, like a lady should" she added extending her hand.

Larisna stood and accepted it.

"Good to hear. By the by, there is a senior staff mixer at 1900. If you'd like the galley to prepare anything special to add to the buffet for dinner, let them know. Beyond that, I'll let you get to work." Larisna said.
