Mission:
Mission 2 - A World With A Bluer Sun
Location: Sickbay
While Sickbay was a little shook up by the effects of the wormhole, they were still able to function just fine, conducting scans on the patient and treating minor injuries from crewmembers who were at the wrong place at the wrong time. A nurse and a researcher were helping to identify the compound in the new arrival.
At that moment, Larisna walked in with Draesni.
"Doctor. Anything you can tell us so far?" She asked.
"Captain, Commander," Calista said with a nod. "Human, scans indicate some unusual characteristics in his blood. Something about the planet has changed the baseline chemistry. He's still unconscious from the stunning but should be coming around shortly. I've taken a blood sample to analyze we should know more in about 20 minutes."
"That would explain the behavior," Draesni said, thinking back to their initial encounter on the surface. It made sense that a change in blood chemistry would have affected the man. But, unless they could reverse or mitigate the effects, it was going to make getting the answers they needed a lot harder. "Have you been able to compensate for...whatever it is that affected him?"
"It's not a parasite, doesn't appear to be induced by radiation, I'll hopefully know more when the lab gets his blood work done. So far, I can tell you that he's human, he seems reasonably healthy from what I've seen, typical of what we would expect from someone living with OUT modern amenities and healthcare access. We've avoided administering a stimulate but the stun should be wearing off on its own shortly." Calista reported.
"Are we sure that's a good idea," Draesni asked, looking over at Aereen, "He wasn't exactly the easiest to get along with the last time he was awake..."
"Forcefield is up, and Mister Cooper over there is all too happy to stun him again if needed." The Doctor said gesturing to the security crewman standing near the door with a rifle.
As if on cue the unconscious man on the biobed began to stir. "Doctor, the patient is regaining consciousness." Called a nurse.
Aereen lead the senior officers over as she began checking the vitals. "Do you know where you are?" She asked the man.
The man looked around groggily at first before becoming more frantic and agitated as he came to. He ignored the question.
"...Commander, how long did you say the wrecks were there for?" Larisna asked, keeping her distance for the moment as she observed the man.
"Difficult to say," Draesni replied, "We weren't able to get a thorough scan of the pod or the debris field before our guest, here, decided to make himself known." Thinking back, even the flow of their encounter with the strange officer from the past seemed to be skewed (though, that could just as easily have been adrenaline and memory playing tricks on them). "Yamashi did manage to pull some data from the flight recorder," he continued, keeping an eye on the man before them, "and that's telling us it's May 2159. I wish I could say something more about the Romulan debris, but we just don't know enough about the materials they used during that time period."
"So...he wasn't stranded there for very long." Koralova commented.
"Certainly no more than a year," Draesni agreed.
"Doctor. Do you think that maybe what's causing this is related to the unknown substance you found in him?" Larisna asked.
"Completely possible," Calista said, a nurse handed her a PADD. "And based on the blood work, definitely, the chemical in his blood has a hormone disruption effect on humans. Based on the metabolites it looks like his stress response has been jacked up to 11 for several months. I'm still not sure how it got into his blood, but I think we can clear it pretty easily now that we know what we're dealing with."
"All things considered, that world wasn't fully surveyed. Bound to be more than a few things that are not going to cooperate with our biology. Class M only says it can support life, doesn't mean there's things you shouldn't eat or drink." Larisna replied.
"If there's some way to bring him out of it, we'll need it sooner rather than later. He may have answers we're lacking." The Captain continued, "Particularly since we're also against the clock too."
"Now that we've got the blood work. Isoprazatol should block the disruptive effects, it should take about five minutes to run its course." Calista said as she prepared a hypospray. "This will help you feel better," Calista said showing the man the hypospray. She held it towards them before moving towards his arm. She administered the medication and monitored the bio readings.
The man started to calm down more, his attempts to take in the surroundings less frantic and more calculated.
"Wha...where am I?" He said softly, but it came out slurred, a struggle to get that much out. "Wa...water...please..."
Aereen grabbed a glass and a picture of water from a nearby cart and handed the man the cup. "What's your name?" She asked.
He drank and then took a moment, working his jaw to try and get the words together. Larisna approached slowly.
"...J-John. John Kearny." The man croaked, "Earth Starship Atlantis."
"Hello, John. I'm...the Captain of...this vessel." Larisna hesitated before continuing, "You've been through a considerable ordeal. The Doctor here will help as she can, but you are not in danger and you are not a prisoner. Do you understand?"
The man nodded. Larisna turned away and gestured to both Draesni and Calista to join her for a moment.
"The Temporal Prime Directive doesn't apply but he's obviously been through a lot. Let's take it nice and slow with any questions but I'm calling a senior staff meeting in ten. Is that acceptable, Doctor?" Larisna said quietly.
The Doctor checked the readings, "We may not have much to go off, I'd like to leave the question for at least an hour, deal with the dehydration and give them a bit of time before we question him but my staff can handle his treatment for the time being."
"That's fair, Doctor. If you'd like, leave him under observation and once he's recovered, we can try asking him some questions." Larisna said, "Probably also give him a chance to clean up and get some fresh clothes."
"I'll have my team monitor him, now that he isn't posing a threat we can look at moving him to guest quarters and post security but I don't think we need him under guard here." The Doctor said.
"Agreed. See you in ten, observation lounge." Larisna said.
