Lines of Division

Posted on Tue May 24, 2022 @ 8:11pm by Lieutenant Commander Kaedon Draesni & Lieutenant Rei Yamashi & Lieutenant Penny Mc Taggard & Lieutenant Calista Aereen MD & Captain Larisna Koralova

Mission: Mission 2 - A World With A Bluer Sun
Location: Transporter Room, USS Hornet -> Transporter Room, NX-05 Atlantis

Larisna watched as the Away Team got prepared to go over, standing next to the Transporter Chief who was running scans to find a suitable location.

“Captain. Scans aren’t the best, but there are a lot of parts of the ship showing microfractures that could be decompression hazards.” The Chief said. Larisna glanced over. The Tellarite Chief Petty Officer gestured to the displays, which showed numerous parts of NX-05 were not suitable. That got a frown from her, she hoped this was evidence of a previous battle and not of the state the Hornet could expect to be if stuck here for too long.

“Commander. I’d stay clear of the Bridge over there, and the Launch Bay. Not unless you want to go over in EV suits.” Larisna commented, “Chief, anywhere we can use? Cargo bay maybe?”

“The interference is making it hard to lock onto a source that won’t scatter them around the ship. Or into it. Or outside of it. Only one option - their transporter pad. Early Human transporter tech is like…stage magic for children compared to what we have. Makes lateral…”

“Yeah, and I don’t see a Tellarite transporter here. Maybe because your people hadn’t perfected it yet either in that era.” Larisna shot back sharply, “So do us all a favor, spare us the technobabble drivel and get on with your asinine plan.”

The Chief smiled and nodded. Anyone else, and the Captain would’ve been grossly out of line. But with a Tellarite, it had the opposite effect and was actually approving of his suggestion, glowingly even.

“Aye, Captain. Commander, I’ll be beaming you all to the transporter room on Atlantis. It will be a bit cramped, so I’d advise you get a bit closer on the pad, please and thank you.” The Chief said to Draseni.

Draesni made mental note of the information that had just been relayed to them, even as he stepped closer to the other members of his team. Not being able to access the bridge was going to make their job harder. But there was no use dwelling on it. They would just have to figure out an alternative…once they were over there.

“Energize,” he said.

[[Atlantis]]

As the silver-blue effect of the transporter faded away, Draesni and the others were afforded their first view of the Atlantis’ interior. It was…less than optimal. Granted, between conflict with the Romulans and however long trapped in this anomaly, that wasn’t entirely unexpected. Wear and tear was immediately visible on the bulkheads around them (including a few scorch marks that could have come from conduit damage…or something else). And the lighting above them flickered. Several fixtures appeared to be out completely.

“Everybody here,” he asked in a low voice, turning to look around at his team.

“Yes McTaggard here.” She said

"Yamashi, here." Rei sounded off. As soon as she was free to move she started to investigate the surroundings. visually at first, before reaching for the engineering tricorder. Some might have gotten nostalgic about being on such an ancient vessel, but to Rei it was another ship, another project, another mission. She'd handle it like any other, like a professional. "Picking up some stress in the hull structure, even this far in. We don't want to waste too much time here." she announced. The carbon scoring bothered her. Shoddy engineering, or deadly aim?

"Areen here and in one piece, atmosphere is safe and I'm not detecting any health hazards but pressure is down 20% the ships is trying to keep air inside but it's leaking out. We need to work fast especially if we're going to have potential rescues and not recoveries." The CMO said.

Penny moved over to the damaged bulkhead and ran a tricorder over it. She gave her device a shake and frowned.

“The tricorder is nay working as it should. It could be interference from outside. This could be weapons damage or a plasma blow out. But with our friend outside twisting things. I can’t get a proper reading. ”Penny said

From the transporter pad, there were only two directions, left or right - the deck plans that everyone had loaded to their tricorders did say that both more or less looped around to the same main corridor, the left one also had one of the main corridors that ran bow to stern on this deck. And their were voices coming from both.

"...I'm just checking out the starboard EPS systems. I think sensors are on the fritz again." A woman's voice said, authorative and annoyed.

"Yes, Commander, I just think..." A more meek sounding male tried to protest.

"I'll be fine, Lou, I've got Jackson and Hadir." The woman replied, and then the thud of boots started down the corridor running port to starboard. Where they were speaking, a door slid shut and then something heavy slid over it. These sounds all came from the left junction.

"Starboard EPS. Coming back." A voice to the right, hushed and possibly male, said, before boots quickly disappeared down the bow-stern corridor. This was coming from the right.

Penny tried to use her tricorder but once again it failed.

“ Canna get readings on them. Interference seems higher out in corridors. For all we know those people out there could be laying in wait for us with knives. Unless their scanning equipment is also on the blink like ours.” Penny said

Rei gave a shake of her head, knowing full well the 'power' of scanning equipment. "Then we do it manually. As for knives, just be on your guard and try to avoid being stabbed." she advised. "Just use your tricorder to block." a bit of a smirk as she picked a direction, "Any direction is as good as the next. I say we go to port." she pointed towards the left junction.

Penny turned her device over in her hands. As the group began to move. She wondered how effective it would be as a shield.

Calista nodded, "Hopefully none of us need my services today."

"Lucky you, this rabbit has all of her feet." Rei quipped before heading to the door sealing the port corridor. Not having heard any discourse as to directions, Rei started to work on opening the hatch. "Everyone ready. We don't know who or what is waiting for us."

Penny braced herself.

Nearby, Draesni stood looking down at his tricorder. While the others had been taking their readings and talking amongst themselves, he had been trying to piece together the various bits of information they'd gathered, but it wasn't making sense. The voices, the emergency bulkheads closing, the damage on the walls. None of it was adding up...until, suddenly, it clicked. "Hang on a sec, lieutenant..."

Did Draesni mean her. She was not sure but moved closer just in case.

Rei perked her ears up, and held her position. She almost froze in place. "Standing by." she reported. How easily those three years of service slid back to the forefront.

Silence. Then, from somewhere beyond, a loud noise. Voices shouting. Although it was almost impossible to make out what they were saying, something about the tone of it was enough to cause Draesni concern. And worse…they were getting closer…
