Down In The Lab

Mission:
Interludes - These Are Our Voyages...
Location: Deck 7, Chief Science Officer's Office
Timeline: En-Route To Skyhook Alpha, Mission 2
Larisna stepped off the turbolift and followed the corridor down. The hardest part for her right now was the waiting. It had been that way during exams time at the Academy, she could only wait and see which of her class had studied and which she'd have to have a difficult decision with the board later on with. The latter wasn't often, but it always hung over her head. The job often required her to keep her hands off and let her crew do their jobs.
But she could at least check in on her officers.
Larisna noticed some engineers heading into one of the science labs with repair kits. She stepped past them them and into the Chief Science Officer's Office.
"Lieutenant? I didn't want to disturb, just thought I'd do my rounds and see how everyone's holding up. So. How are you doing?" Larisna asked with a pleasant smile.
The incident with the Holo projection table had spooked Edgeware. This was the second time a major piece of equipment had failed on him. Agreed the last time had been a turbo lift car , failing to arrive. If only he had looked up he would not of fallen down that lift shaft. Then again if it had not happened. He would still be on the USS Ranger now.
The repair team had arrived. The only drawback with this. The CO picked the same time to visit.
With a broad smile that he hoped. Did not make him look insane. He greeted her.
“ Not not not to bad Ma’am” He said,
Larisna grabbed a chair and sat down.
"It's okay to be nervous, our first outing wasn't a good start. And it's not like either of us had quiet pasts." Larisna said. "But I don't think we're dealing with evil pain causing parasites this time. Seems to be more of a mystery than we know though, wouldn't you say?"
“ Who knows. Bunker Hill is proving a bit difficult to get in touch with. We are still waiting for them to reply. I am very interested to know more about the Dilithium crystals being so pure. It’s got to be connected with this gas giant. But I cannot see how” Steven said
"As I said earlier, it could go a way to explaining why it helped keep dilithium production stable after that disaster at Utopia Planitia." Larisna said, "Who knows, maybe it was what helped to keep the Hornet alive. She barely made it to production, I think Starfleet Command nearly ordered her keel broken down four times since it was laid down three years ago, use the materials for more Inquiry class ships."
She chuckled, "I doubt we have the same crystals in the drive right now, and I'd rather we keep going than stop and pull the dilithium crystals out. Plus, they might have just saved it by going to other ships and not giving Starfleet Command any more excuses to have kept us from launching."
"Still, the mystery is intriguing. The Vulcan Science Academy didn't look too closely at it, they are more concerned with the origins of the Skyhook. You name a theory for a precursor race, it's on the board. Preservers, Iconians, Hur'q. The usual names." Larisna said.
Steven’s face fell slightly at the mention of the Vulcan Science Academy.
“ The Vulcan Science Academy don’t like me too well.” He confessed.
"From my understanding, they don't like most outsiders. Lieutenant Sorek, Vulcan I served with on the Galaxy, he once commented that even Vulcans serving in Starfleet Science tend to have a time with them. He didn't quite use the word arrogant, but it was near as makes no difference." Larisna chuckled, "Don't let them discourage you, they aren't here. They're going to over analyze everything, but it'll still be your name on the paper at the end of the day."
Steven nodded.
“ All I did was question their data on the Earth Kelp blight of 2121. They would not admit they made a mistake. Plus now. Anything I ask them for has to be analysed first. To see if the proposed data would be helpful to my injuries.” He took a breath. “ I hope when we get to Skyhook...we find something they can’t poo poo.....sorry” Steven said turning red
"I wouldn't worry too much about it. They're going to make their comments, but ultimately, the people more interested will likely be Starfleet Corps of Engineers. They should be open to new information, I think." Larisna replied, "Don't let others diminish your enthusiasm or quest for knowledge. Don't give away your power."
Steven nodded then said,
“ By the way, is there anything you can do about getting in touch with the Bunker hill. Only they still have not answer back to our calls.” Seven asked
"I'll see what I can do." Larisna said and stood up, "Is there anything else you'd like to discuss?"
“ Thanks but that is all I need.” Steven said
