Mission:
Mission 0 - While You Wait
Location: Captains Ready Room
Timeline: Day 01
Leaving the XO's office Amanda found the nearest turbo lift.
Deck one bridge she told the computer.
The turbo lift deposited her on the bridge, it was a noisy place as technicians were still installing equipment running diagnostics or otherwise.
Amanda made her way to the captains ready room and hit the chime.
"Enter." Larisna said, having gone back to reading over the status reports.
Lt Malloy strode in.
"Hello Captain, Lt Amanda Malloy reporting in as ordered in fact here are my orders."
Amanda placed the P.A.D.D on her the captains desk in front of her.
"I wanted to check in with you after I checked in with the XO."
Larisna nodded, "Good. So, you would be the Chief of Operations." She said, then started to chuckle.
"This is a little unusual, but it would seem the majority of the senior staff are women. How interesting that turned out to be..." Larsina commented.
"At any rate, welcome aboard the Hornet. According to the reports I have here, we should be able to set off soon, though my intention is that we take over from the caretaker crew before then. But before we get too far ahead of that, do you have any questions for me or anything you'd like brought to my attention?" Larsina asked.
"Of course I do, What is the current status of the computer network and the LCARS database? What are your priorities of command? What is your vision for this ship and mission Captain?" Amanda asked.
Amanda felt like she was grilling Captain Koralava. So she decided to expand on why she wanted to know these things.
"I ask because I want to know how to best serve you and this ship." Lt. Malloy asked. She was usually very direct and blunt. Just part of her nature.
Larisna leaned back in her chair.
"Starting to wonder if you all drew straws to put me on the spot about this ship and my qualifications." Larisna replied before finally chuckling.
"Current reports show that the computer network is receiving software updates but otherwise operational." Larisna leaned forward, "Lieutenant, the fact of the matter is this. We're all here to do a job, and I have to trust that you know how to do that job. But we are also a new ship, a new crew. We're going to find our own traction."
"No disrespect intended Captain, just trying to get to know you. I suppose that will come with time. May I assume my station"? Amanda asked.
"I apologize. It's natural that we all want to get to know one another, see how we tick. And we will. But I do find it sets expectations if I just lay out my command style in words without actions, especially without adjusting for personality or other variables." Larisna smiled, "I feel it's better to just establish how we will function, one and one and among teams and as a crew, and adapt accordingly. But ultimately, I intend to set us up for success as much as I can, but I also am not going to insult anyone's intelligence by micromanaging people to death. Engineering crew on the Knox back when I was on it had that issue, felt like you couldn't open a tricorder on Engineering without first asking the Chief Engineer."
"But you're free to get settled in, get familiar with the ship while the caretaker crew is still handling things. But I do have a mixer planned for the senior staff at 1900 in the lounge. A chance for us all to be in the same room together and just mingle. If you have something you'd like shared for the buffet dinner, let the galley know. As I said, we're going to have to find our own traction but that has to start somewhere. Better under ideal conditions." Larisna said.
"Please pardon me for being so blunt, and thank you for your generosity Captain. I'll be there for the mixer." Amanda said.
"Of course, no harm done. I'll see you then, Lieutenant. If there's nothing else, you're free to get acquainted with the ship." Larisna replied.
"Thank you Ma'am."
Amanda left and wnet down to sickbay.
