Mission:
Mission 1R - Vigilance Be Our Shield
Location: Bridge
Timeline: M1D1 1530 Hours
Having never served on a Nebula class before, Larisna had no idea what to expect with changing over the pods on the Hornet, so the process was one she wished she could have given more attention to, but her demands were elsewhere.
With the process being supervised by both Engineering and Operations, it was just about done at this point, which meant she could at least pull up with both department heads and let them know what was going on and why there was such a rush. She joined them at the bridge consoles they were looking over.
"Lieutenant Sakkar, I apologize we haven't had much time to talk one on one, we'll pull up and talk once we're underway. I like to get to know those I'm working with and address concerns head on or at least leave the door open to do so." Larisna said, "But I'd like to check in with both you and Lieutenant Yeserina. Firstly to check in about the pod fitting but also to fill you both in on what we're getting into directly before the staff meeting later today."
"So. Let's start with that, how are we looking with the pod being fitted?" Larisna asked.
Sakkar answered. "All EPS and ODN connections are complete. Gravity and life support are coming online. An EVA team is out on the hull visually inspecting the maglocks. No significant issues to report, Captain."
"Very good. Personally, I wish I could have been there to see it all happen, I never served on a Nebula class, so that feature now on the Monarch is new to me." Larisna replied with a smile, "Really going to give us an edge in any situation with the right pod fitted."
"Anything to report on the Engineering side?" She asked E'Lor.
"Engineering has adjusted the EPS manifolds to handle the increase in power needed for the new pod. SIF and IDF fields are at 100% and the warp core is inspected and already online ready for departure. Sensor pallets are alloted to their respective departments and all weapons have been checked and are ready to go. All diagnostics have been run and we are green across the boards," E'Lor said.
"Very well. I'll have Commander Draesni and his staff get set up as soon as we're underway." Larisna replied, "We're going to be coordinating and assisting with the evacuation of Federation civilians in the disputed region between Gorn and Klingon space. Chancellor Martok has clearly asked that we take a neutral stance and not intervene, and the Federation will respect that. We might be called upon to assist with some evacuation parts, but most of the leg work will be done by the Tahoe, Alameda and Zaikov. We have a hospital ship just in case, as well."
"Lieutenant Sakkar, I may have you assisting Strategic Operations in coordinating the efforts. The effort should run smoothly enough but extra eyes might help us out all the same." Larisna first said to Sakkar.
"Aye, Captain," the Vulcan replied.
"Lieutenant Yeserina, naturally we're going to need to be ready for the evacuation to not go to plan and where Sick Bay is preparing for the people, I'll need you to be ready for the mechanical side of things. We have no clear indications as to what the situation looks like on any of these worlds and if panic has or has not been in that situation." Larisna said next to the Chief Engineer.
"But one thing I have stressed to every single department head is this - we are not there for any reason other than to evacuate civilians from a future conflict zone. Like the Chancellor, and like the Federation Council and Starfleet Command, I have no desire to see us get involved and I will not have us be the reason the Federation is drug into a shooting war. If you have questions, you can ask me now or we can discuss it at the staff meeting later today. So, the floor is open now for any questions, comments, concerns." Larisna said, gesturing to both officers.
"Only the most pertinent questions," Sakkar said, casually crossing his hands behind him. "How many people must we evacuate, and how much time do we have? Questions which, I assume, will be answered at the staff meeting."
Larisna looked at Sakkar and had to stifle a smile, those were both quite relevant questions.
"The exact numbers will be provided later, yes. But our timeline is expected to be about a week. Most of the work will be our other ships along with us, and I specifically requested an Akira for the job too. But the Federation has slowly been pulling people from the area since things started looking violent. This is just getting the few holdouts." Larisna replied.
"I can set up cargo bays to hold some of the evacuees. It will put a strain on resources but I believe we can manage it. I can also boost the shield output by shunting the extra fision reactors to boost shields and transporters", E'Lor finished saying.
Larisna blinked a couple of times at her Chief Engineer. How were they ready if this request was going to strain one of the newest ships in the fleet?
"Lieutenant, if we're all systems green, then we shouldn't be seeing a strain on resources, especially if we're taking on supplies and we're only coordinating the mission and acting in a support manner. I do want us at least prepared, so if you don't feel we're ready, you should probably get on that before the staff meeting." Larisna said, a little more stern, "And I do hope you mean fusion reactors because I don't recall authorizing 300 year old reactors on this ship."
"So I would like a full status report on my desk before the staff meeting, because given that my Chief Engineer just completely contradicted herself, I'm now in doubt that the Hornet is going to be ready to leave dock on schedule." Larisna's voice now held no room for argument. The ship would be ready to leave on schedule. Or else.
"My error as I meant fusion and as for readiness, engineering is as I said green. What I meant was that if we were needed to evacuate people I can get two cargo bays ready for that. As for strain, that would fall under evacuation protocols Captain should it become necessary. However, my report will be on your desk within the hour," E'Lor said a tad embarrassed and hurt.
"Very well." Larisna nodded, "No, we're not expecting those kinds of numbers. Not with our task force. Thank you."
She turned to Sakkar, "Thank you for the status report as well, Lieutenant."
"If there's nothing else, I'll leave you both to it." Larisna said.
"Aye, Captain," Sakkar replied, his voice cool and dispassionate. Inwardly, his curiosity was piqued. He would file it away for later. There was still much to be done before departure. "If you require assistance with anything, I will be in deflector control," he said to E'Lor. He turned and headed for the turbolift.
