CMO Report Aboard

Posted on Sun Mar 6, 2022 @ 4:41am by Captain Larisna Koralova & Lieutenant Calista Aereen MD

Mission: Mission 2 - A World With A Bluer Sun
Location: USS Hornet, Docked at Deep Space 4
Timeline: Prior to M2 Launch

Hey thought since you guys are just getting going with the next mission we can have Aereen come aboard before the start of the mission. Would you like to set the scene?

-ON-
The Hornet was about ready to get underway for its mission in the Typhon Expanse. The new Long Range Sensor Pod was in place, but crews were being changed out. It was the normal day to day in Starfleet - promotions, reassignments, the usual.

Larisna was advised one of her new senior staff would be coming aboard today, and she decided she had to get out of the Ready Room for a bit. And so, she left orders that the new Chief Medical Officer was to meet her in the ship's lounge. The lounge, dubbed the "Hornet's Nest", seemed to be equal parts lounge and museum from all the historical errata it contained - all of it fixated on the early days of space flight from around and even outside of the Federation. In a way, it was much like the 602 Club back on Earth. The center case held replicas of the space suits used for the Apollo 11 and 12 missions and contained all manner of memorabilia from both missions. The walls themselves were adorned with mission patches, photographs and art depicting early space flights from Vulcan, Andoria, Tellar Prime, Trill, Betazed, Qo'nos, and other places. It was a firm reminder of the pioneers who risked so much for the explorers of the present to continue their mission.

Aereen stepped through the docking gangway and on the Hornet. A security crewman was standing nearby and gave her a small smile. "Order ma'am." She handed him the PADD that held her transfer orders and waited while the young Bajoran crewman verified she was in fact who she claimed and was supposed to be coming aboard. "Welcome to the Hornet Doctor, hopefully, I don't have to see you again too soon." He said with a smile. She smiled back, one of those jokes that medical personnel got all the time that never seemed quite as funny as non-medical types thought it was.

"Thank you, Crewman, here's hoping." She replied.

"Doctor Aereen, the Captain has asked that you meet her in the crew lounge, the Hornet's Nest." The Ensign who was supervising the junior crewman and far more serious about the task added noting the name on the orders.

"Charming name." She replied, with a small nod to both men she headed for the nearest lift. She detoured to Sickbay just long enough to poke her head in and take a look. She dropped her bag off in her office for the time being. Let the nurse on duty know that she'd be back later. Given it was shore leave and the ship was docked sickbay was deserted. The nurse nodded and returned her attention to a PADD, judging by the young officer's expression it was likely something more interesting than paperwork. She smiled, having widdled away more than one duty shift reading through a novel.

"Hornet's Nest." She said as she entered the lift across the corridor from sickbay. A few moments later it spit her out across from large double doors. Stepping inside she took in the atmosphere, it wasn't too busy, most of the crew likely opting for the change of scenery that the starbase offered.

Calista saw the woman who she recognized from her transfer orders as her new CO. The fact that she was the only one in the room in red at the moment didn't hurt. "Captain Koralova," She said with a small nod. "Doctor Calista Aereen reporting for duty."

Larisna nodded and gestured to the chair across from her with a welcoming smile, "Welcome aboard, Doctor. I apologize for the rush, this was kind of a last-minute change in the roster. Nothing new there though, right?" She gave a chuckle at that.

"Well, the good news is that you came in after the rather harrowing time we had in the disputed region between Klingon and Gorn space. We're just looking at an exploration trip to the Typhon Expanse this time." Larisna explained.

"I'd spent the last two weeks waiting for new orders to come through, you'd think Starfleet would have gotten a little bit better at managing personnel. Exploration sounds good, my last posting was the Tro'jor, so I haven't been outside of the Federation much the last few years." Calista replied. "Anything specific they're sending us to look for?"

"Just anything we can." Larisna replied, "Exploration is one of the better missions to be handed. Especially these days. I'm not one for combat, contrary to my background. Being good at something and enjoying it...those can be quite removed from one another. I don't know if you did your own reading up - some do and assume I'm looking to warp off to the next fight. And as a doctor, I'm sure that likely raised some concerns, so I figured I should put that at ease now. If you didn't, then I can at least clear the air now before those concerns do come up."

"Thank you, Captain, at the end of the day there's a reason why I'm in Starfleet and I understand the kind of situations that we can find ourselves in. We all accept those risks when we sign up. But, I am glad to know you aren't cavalry about those things." The Doctor replied.

Larisna smiled and nodded, "Of course, Doctor. So, I keep an open door - I know many people say that, but I came off an Academy posting, so I mean it. If you have concerns, let me know. Any questions, comments, concerns or anything of the like?" She asked.

"Of course Captain, I appreciate that. I have the same policy, it was quite easy on an Intrepid where the Chief's office literally didn't have doors." Calista said with a grin.

"Agreed." Larisna said, "Well, before I go check in on a couple of things, is there anything you wanted to discuss or ask?"

"No ma'am, I'd like to review the department and then I'll inform you and the XO of any issues. Is there anything else you need from me?" Calista asked.

"That'll be it then. Thank you and welcome aboard."
