Mission 2 - A World With A Bluer Sun
Location: Engineering
Timeline: During Shoreleave
Calista had been aboard the Hornet for a few days, the medical department looked to be in good shape except for one of the bio-replicators. The small fluctuations would mean that it couldn't be used for more than basic tissue regeneration. Entering main engineering she immediately recognized the Chief from their medical record. "Good morning Lieutenant, I was hoping I could trouble you for some assistance," Calista said.
Rei was overseeing some of the day-to-day of the Engineering pit. Never a dull moment, really. Checking here, adjusting there, it wasn't hard to find Rei and it wasn't just because of her medical record. It was the hair. Yeah, the hair.
As she was approached, the rabbitess turned to Calista and gave a welcoming smile. "Welcome to Engineering primary." she offered first. It wasn't an emergency so things were quiet. "Assistance? Certainly, how can Engineering help you?"
The bio replicator for bio bed three is giving us some issues. We're getting power fluctuations that while a minor are enough to through of the function of the device. I've exhausted my technical support abilities, which is basically turn it off turn it back on and if it's still causing issues I come to the experts." The Doctor said.
Rei offered a soft smile. "An expert? In lieu of their presence, I'm available." she offered, and motioned for the doctor to lead the way. "I appreciate you taking the initiative to power cycle the biobed. Most people I've spoken to in my term haven't even gotten that far."
"I paid reasonably close attention in my engineering courses, I'll admit most of it was quite dry and boring in my opinion. I did always find gel-packs an interesting bit of engineering though." Calista replied.
"Everyone says Engineering is boring until they need air or gravity." Rei said with a giggle. "The concept of Gel Packs is indeed fascinating. They're very similar to what we used back home in the Navy so that helps the transition. Otherwise I'd have to basically re-learn the wheel out here."
Rei and the good doctor arrived at medical, and once the rabbitess was shown the offending biobed, she started her investigation. Step one, a full diagnostic, though while that was running Rei took off an access panel and began to inspect the innards directly. "Was it acting up the last time it functioned properly, or was it just Good, Good, Good, Bad?"
"I'm not sure, one of the Doctor said it was giving them trouble when they tried to use it near the start of shoreleave, I haven't been aboard long enough to know if it's a reoccurring thing or just acting up cause it's feeling lonely." The Doctor said with a grin.
"Hmmmm, yeah well now it has ALL the attention so maybe it'll... and she paused, "Hmm, no that's good. That's alright. That's supposed to be like that. Huh. she started to really dig around in the depths of the biobed. "While I'm in here, run the bed through some diagnostic checks. Have it run a self scan, see if it can give you some results. I want to watch it run." she gave a giggle from inside the device, "I want to see where it fails."
Calista nodded and moved to the control panel, "Initializing a level three diagnostic."
Rei crawled a little deeper under the guts of the biobed, her broad paws waving to a zythum that only she heard. "Hmmm, that's interesting." she mentioned after something caught her attention. "Run that diagnostic, but limit it to subcomponents seventeen through thirty two. I think I might have found the issue, or at least I found out WHERE the problem is." she offered up. "It's either a fizzled connection to the onboard database or a short in the connection to the actual component fabricator."
"I mean, it *could* be both."
"Adjusting diagnostic parameters," Calista said as she changed what the computer targeted.
A few moments passed by, before, "AHA! Found it." and the rabbitess went to work. A few moments after her revelation, the diagnostic reported no problems. Rei crawled out from under the medical bed, and gave a nod, "Found the issue, it was the fabricator connection. It was a little loose and looked a little frayed from a short. I cut off the damaged parts and made a solid connection on the lead. Should be good from here out but if anything happens, give me a call."
"Consider it a thirty day assurance." she smirked.
Calista smiled, "So it will crap out on me on day 31 won't it?" She joked. "Thank you Lieutenant I appreciate it."
"Nothing so predictable." the rabbitess paused. "Thirty two." she smirked, before giving a nod, "You're very welcome. If anything hitches up, please give us a call. If not me, I'll send someone as soon as possible. Especially if it's Medical that has an issue." she pointed out for emphasis.
"Enjoy the day." and with that, the rabbitess took one step backwards before turning away to depart.
"Thanks again." The Doctor said as the Engineer left sickbay.
